Since 1989, The Promise has brought the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to the stage through immersive, professional-scale live theater — touching hundreds of thousands of lives across Texas and around the world.
In the mid-1980s, a group of Texas Christians had a dream: to present the story of Jesus through a large-scale live musical that felt real and impossible to ignore. That dream became reality on a fall evening in 1989 at the Texas Amphitheater in Glen Rose — where the cast outnumbered the audience.
Word spread fast. Within a few years The Promise was airing on TBN, reaching millions of viewers. Invitations came from around the world — Times Square, the Kremlin’s Palace of Congresses in Moscow (the first Christian event ever staged there), and the Olympic Stadium in Seoul.
In 2024, Somervell County sold the Texas Amphitheater after 37 years. The Promise found a new home at Willow Park Baptist Church — indoors, closer to DFW, with earlier show times and Saturday matinees. Christmas 2025 broke all attendance records at the new venue.
The story is far from over.
Each season of The Promise tells a different chapter of the greatest story ever told — the fall production covers the full life of Christ, while spring and winter focus on specific moments in the narrative.
The full life of Jesus — from His birth and ministry to the crucifixion and resurrection. The flagship production.
The Nativity story brought to life through music, drama, and spectacular visuals. A holiday tradition in the making.
The passion narrative — from the Last Supper to the empty tomb. Drawn directly from the Gospel accounts.
The Promise opened at the Texas Amphitheater in Glen Rose. The cast outnumbered the audience — but the quality of the production quickly gained national attention.
Trinity Broadcast Network aired the production multiple times, reaching millions of viewers across the country and establishing The Promise as a nationally recognized ministry.
