Auditions – The Promise

A musical production of the life of Christ with a cast of over 80, live animals, state-of-the-art projections and special effects. Directed by John Wilkerson.

What to Prepare

Prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre or contemporary Christian song. If you want to be considered for a speaking role, also prepare a one-minute monologue. All material must be memorized. Bring an accompaniment track or link — Bluetooth speakers will be available.

Young Reuben — Young shepherd, male, ages 9–13. Vocal range: B4–C#5 (boy soprano).

Chaya — Shepherdess / guardian angel, female, ages 20s–40s. Vocal range: B4–C#5.

Tirzah — Shepherd’s wife and mother, ages 25–45. Vocal range: C4–C5.

Caleb — Crippled son of a shepherd healed by Jesus, ages 9–11. Vocal range: C4–F#5 (boy soprano).

Ephram — Teenage son of a shepherd, ages 13–15. Vocal range: C3/4–C4/5.

Abigail — Teenage daughter of a shepherd, ages 14–18. Vocal range: C4–C5.

Nativity Angel (Gabriel) — Vocal range: F3–F5.

Young Mary — Ages 16–mid 20s. Vocal range: C4–G5.

Joseph — Ages 18–35. Vocal range: D3–E4.

Little Yeshua — Ages 8–10. Vocal range: D4–C5 (boy soprano).

Young Yeshua — Ages 13–16. Vocal range: Bari/Tenor A4–F#4.

Caiaphas — The High Priest, imposing leader, ages 45–55. Vocal range: A3–F4.

Jesus (Understudy only) — Ages 30–40. Vocal range: C3–A5.

John the Baptist — Ages 30–40. Vocal range: F3–G4.

Satan — Must be in excellent physical condition, ages 30–50. Vocal range: C3–D#4.

Simon Peter — Ages 25–35, Baritone. Vocal range: C3–F4.

John the Beloved — Ages 18–mid 20s, Tenor. Vocal range: C3–G4.

Nathaniel — Ages 18–mid 20s, Tenor. Vocal range: G3–F4.

Disciples — Ages 17–mid 20s. Tenor 1 & 2 and Bass 1 & 2. Must be able to sing acapella choral music.

Woman in the Crowd — Ages 20–40. Vocal range: A#4–F#5.

Centurion — Ages 25–40. Physically imposing, commanding presence. Stage combat experience a plus.

Bartimaeus — Blind man healed by Jesus, ages 20–40.

Pilate — Very imposing figure, must be willing to be clean-shaven, ages 30–50. Vocal range: G3–G4.

Mary at the Cross — Ages 45–50. Vocal range: A4–E5 (+ Soprano 1 to A5).

Mary of Bethany — Ages 16–30. Alto or Soprano.

Martha of Bethany — Ages 20–35. Alto or Soprano.

Arise Angel — Male, ages 20–40, Tenor. Vocal range: D3–A5 (optional full voice C5).

Ensemble — 40 spots (16 male, 24 female), ages 13 and up. SATB chorus. Includes a Dance Corps of 12 females.

Children’s Ensemble — 12 spots, male and female, ages 5–12.

REUBEN — age 30-50, father and shepherd. Baritone

Requirements

• Actors may be cast in several roles.
• Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent at all rehearsals and performances.
• All conflicts must be listed on your audition form. No additional conflicts can be added after being cast.

Compensation

All actors age 13 and over are paid a stipend.

Dancers will be asked to attend an extra rehearsal if cast (Pending extra dancer rehearsal: Friday, February 13th)

If you would like to be considered for a position in the Dance Company, you will be asked to prepare 6-8 eight counts of choreography to the song of your choice (Genres of preference:contemporary, ballet, jazz).
The piece you prepare should display your strengths as a dancer(technique and emoting).
The following are encouraged to include in your piece:
● Turn/s of choice: pirouette, chaine, or pique
● Leg extensions: 1 of 3 battements – front, side, & back
● Jump/s of choice: leap, pas de chat, saute, changement, echappe,
● Emoting: facial expressions, performance, engaging
